How to use
Choose a template and copy
Keep the message short and include an expected return time if you can.
Activate
Turn Active On and save.
Verify logged-out
Open a private window — visitors see maintenance; admins typically still access wp-admin.
Deactivate when done
Turn Inactive so the normal site returns.
Pro
Using a WordPress page as the maintenance source is a Pro option.
Notes & limits
- Logged-in administrators can usually still access the site while Maintenance is On (bypass for work).
- Returns a holding page suitable for short downtime — purge caches after enabling/disabling.
- Pair with Coming Soon for pre-launch vs temporary maintenance.
